Innovative Pedagogy Grant Awardees Develop Exemplary Courses

Fourteen Innovative Pedagogy grants were awarded to full-time faculty to support them in the revision or development of exemplary courses. The goal of these grants is to invest in the continuous quality improvement of courses taught by faculty who provide students with innovative, highly engaging courses, offered either in an online, blended or traditional format.

GTA Teaching Resource Grant Awards Enhance Quality and Depth of Undergraduate Learning

Four GTA Teaching Resource Grants have been awarded to 4 projects to support the development of instructional materials, modules, cross-curriculum assessments and other resources that enhance the quality and depth of undergraduate student learning at USC.

Graduate Students Awarded Preparing Future Faculty Credential

51 graduate students from 30 departments received their Preparing Future Faculty credential in Spring 2018. The Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program is a professional development opportunity that provides assistance to graduate students and post-docs who want to become faculty members at the college level.

2018 Garnet Apple Award Winners

Six Garnet Apple award winners have been announced. The Garnet Apple Award honors the University of South Carolina's most exceptional faculty who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to best teaching practices and an ongoing record of developing innovative strategies to enhance student learning in their courses.

Graduate Students Take Teaching Skills Online

Graduate students who were new to online learning or interested in teaching an online course boosted their teaching credentials and learned new skills with the eight-week "Teaching Online for Graduate Students" online course. 21 graduate students earned a certificate of completion for successfully completing the course that developed their knowledge and ability to implement and teach online courses.

Virtual Environments Bootcamp

Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit an application to attend a weeklong hands-on Virtual Environments Bootcamp June 25-29. You'll learn the basics for using the latest virtual environments technologies as well as how to teach using these tools.

Spring 2018 Grants

Each year in partnership with other campus units the CTE offers teaching innovation grants designed to provide resources and support for faculty who are interested in exploring new and cutting-edge approaches in their teaching in ways that promise to enhance student learning. This spring 3 new grants are being offered, a 3Ds Bootcamp: Design, Develop, and Deliver an Online Course Grant, an Innovative Pedagogy Grant and a GTA Teaching Resource Development Grant.

Educational Technology Showcase

The Educational Technology Showcase is a free teaching with technology symposium spotlighting the latest and emerging trends in higher education technologies. The showcase is designed to promote best practices in selecting and using educational technology in higher education, cultivate partnerships, provide hands-on opportunities for faculty to experiment with educational technology and demonstrate how educational technology can enhance the student's learning experience.

Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) Announces New Leadership Team

Provost Joan Gabel has announced the new leadership team for the Center for Teaching Excellence. Professor Augie Grant of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications begins a four-year term as Director of CTE. Joining Grant on the management team is Associate Director Nate Carnes from the College of Education. Aisha Haynes, who served as the Interim Director of CTE for the past seven months, has been promoted to Assistant Director.

USC Leadership Week Book Drive

The Office of the Provost, Center for Teaching Excellence and the Student United Way of USC are hosting a book drive for the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) during USC Leadership Week (January 29 - February 3, 2018). The MRC is collecting books for elementary school kids to take home for the summer to prevent reading loss. During the book drive, the Carolina Community will rally in support of education and childhood literacy by donating new English and Spanish children's books.
