All Global Exchange, Global Direct, Global Partner, and IB exchange students must complete our pre-departure course in Blackboard, and Global Classroom students are required to attend pre-departure meetings with their program leader. To supplement the required pre-departure process, we also occassionally offer optional workshops on the following topics. Check back for scheduling information.
Students will connect with a panel of study abroad returnees to hear about their international experiences and the importance of engaging in global education.
The Covid-19 workshop presents tips about traveling during the pandemic. The workshop will also address stigmas about covid-19 as well as tips for keeping yourself mentally and physically healthy.
This workshop can be viewed on the Education Abroad Orientation Blackboard organization group and is designed to walk you through the benefits of GLD, the application process, and how to make the most of your time abroad to prepare for your portfolio when you return.
This workshop is designed to help you meet other UofSC students studying abroad. Make friends with students going to your same country or seek advice from study abroad alumni who have been to your host country!

This resource is designed to explore issues around sexuality. What resources do you have to understand your host country's attitude and acceptance towards the LGBTQ+ community? How can you best prepare yourself to travel and still be true to your sexual and/or gender identity? This session will do a deep dive into how various parts of your identity, like race and ethnicity may play into your time abroad. Join us in exploring how you can find a community in your host country. Education abroad alumni will share their experiences on navigating the intersection between their host culture and their identity. This workshop will provide an extensive overview of what to consider before and during your time abroad. Led by undergraduate Peer Advisors for the Education Abroad Office, this event includes topics like how to budget, what to pack, navigating transportation, and how to plan so you can truly maximize your time abroad.
This identity-based workshop is designed for the unique needs of women traveling abroad. A panel of education abroad returnees will be present to answer all your questions, including the special considerations that women have abroad, how to stay safe and healthy, and how to plan for your needs in advance. This workshop is open to women or people who identify as women.
