Our Staff

The Writing Center is staffed by graduate students. Each staff member has at least a Bachelor’s degree and is pursuing an M.A., M.F.A., or Ph. D in an English discipline.

Anna - Assistant Director

Anna (she/her)
Assistant Director

Anna is a second-year PhD student in Composition and Rhetoric and a writing instructor. She is interested in first-year writing pedagogy, teaching with technology, and incorporating alternative, multimodal teaching methods. Anna enjoys working with students across all disciplines to help with a variety of needs from academic paper writing to crafting materials for job and/or graduate school opportunities.

Craig Hawley is an English instructor and PhD student, entering his third year in the Composition and Rhetoric program. He has worked in two previous writing centers, and regularly teaches first-year English, but is also experienced in many disciplines of writing. Craig enjoys working with students from all backgrounds, and helping them to improve their own writing at all stages of the writing process.


Alex (he/him)

Alex is an MFA student in Fiction at South Carolina. He grew up in Columbus, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia for undergrad. He loves Taylor Swift, Minecraft, and the sound of rain. His favorite book at the moment is Emma Hooper's Etta and Otto and Russell and James.


Athena (she/her)

I just graduated North Greenville University with a bachelors in English. I have lived in South Carolina all of my life and have loved every moment of it. In the future, I see myself teaching English at the college level and helping as many people love the creativity that the English language brings.


Bevan (he/him)

I'm a first year MA student focusing on American literature and I graduated from the College of Charleston with a BA in English. I'm excited to share my knowledge of writing with students to help them write with intent. Outside of reading and writing, my interests include biking, video games, and aviation.


Fiona (she/her)

Fiona is a first-year MFA student in poetry. She enjoys helping students at all stages of the writing process, including pre-writing, drafting, and revision.


Jamie (he/him)

Jiaming is pursuing a MA in English, concentrating in American Literature.


Kyla (she/her)


Liza (pronounced like "Lisa", she/her)

Liza is a first-year creative writing MFA student, with a concentration in fiction. She recently earned her bachelors in writing from Tusculum University. Liza has some experience in editing from her time working on TU's literary journal "The Tusculum Review," as well as their undergraduate literary journal, "Sit Lux."


Logan (he, him)

Logan is in his first year of the MFA (fiction) program.


Lydia (she/her)

My name is Lydia. I graduated in 2023 from the University of South Carolina with a BA in English with a concentration in writing. I am now a graduate student at USC getting an MA in English literature. I really enjoy writing essays concerning literature. One of my biggest hobbies is reading (shocking I know). I also really enjoy going to concerts and listening to music.
