Rhys Dreeszen Bowman is a Ph.D. student in the School of Information Science at the University of South Carolina. Their primary research interests include how school libraries serve or fail to serve trans and nonbinary students with a focus on user service.

lgbtqia+ communities; resistance; information practices

Their dissertation studies how trans people use information to survive in South Carolina.


Fellowships

Dreeszen Bowman was named a Bilinski Dissertation Fellow for the 2024-25 academic year. This fellowship is awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences for dissertation work in the humanities and social sciences. As a fellow, Bowman will be able to focus on completing their dissertation, “From Margins to Center: Community-Based Action Research with Transgender Communities in South Carolina.”
