Why I chose the South Carolina Honors College
The community! I am naturally an introverted person but I have always tried to make an effort to branch out and meet new people, and the community of the honors college within USC as a whole has been the perfect environment for me to do that.
My advice for prospective students: College isn't just about getting a degree to land a good job. While I agree that the promise of financial stability is the biggest motivator for a lot of people (myself included) to go to college, it's also important to note that college is a great way to expand your horizons. I have had lots of classes that I expected to be one-off gen-ed requirements I would never think about again actually end up majorly adjusting my perspective on the world around me. So I guess my advice would be to take courses outside of your comfort zone, and show up to class with an open mind.
Something new I’d like to learn: I want to learn all the local flora and fauna in South Carolina. I remember in high school my environmental science teacher told me about how her and her husband went on hikes with their friends and spent the entire time reciting the latin names of quite literally everything they saw (much to their friends dismay), and from then on I knew I had to get on that level someday.
Favorite question during an information session: How did you know what major to pick? Is it okay to change majors?
I love this question simply because it's one of the only ones where I get to grin and confidently say "I don't know." I think lots of people thinking about college are deterred because they don't know exactly what they want to do, but the reality is that the majority of people who are in college still have no idea what they're gonna do as a career. I always say that college is a great time to explore your interests, and that it's totally okay to change your major if doing so gets you closer to a field of study or career you find more fulfilling. It's also nice to know I have honors advising in my corner supporting my decisions and giving guidance about course decisions based on my personal interests.

Favorite place for lunch on or near campus: | A little bit farther from campus but I love Duke's Pad Thai |
Theme song of my life: | Caroline Polachek - Welcome to my Island |
Skill I’d like to master: | I'd love to learn to play an instrument! I actually played percussion all through middle school, but my high school didn't have a music program so I had to give it up, and I've really missed it since. |
Something I’m proud of that’s not on my resume: | I am REALLY GOOD at heating up leftovers. I know all the tips and tricks to make leftovers seem like new, and sometimes I can even make slight adjustments to them and turn them into entirely new dishes. |
