Ask me about...

Coming from an extremely small school to a huge SEC school, club swimming and the best places to run on campus!

Hi y'all! My name is Sophia and I am currently on the pre-dental track hoping to go into pediatric general dentistry. I absolutely love reading (my favorite series right now is Throne of Glass), staying active and trying new restaurants around Columbia! I love putting myself out there, meeting new people and I'm very dedicated to the things that I take part of.

  • Hometown: Asheville, NC
  • Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Year: Class of 2027

Why I chose the South Carolina Honors College

I had always gone to small private schools and I wanted the big school experience, but I was nervous about just being a number. When I came to Honors Admitted Students Day I felt like I mattered as a person. This college wanted to know who I was. What I liked, how I thought and just everything about what made me, me mattered to them.

My advice for prospective students: Go with your gut. You will know what school is right for when you step onto the campus. It sounds cliche but that truly was my experience.

Favorite question during an information session: What was your experience like living in the Honors Residence Hall?

Living in the Honors Residence Hall was absolutely the best choice of my life! My roommate and I loved getting close with the people we not only lived with, but were also in classes with. The events that are hosted by Honors that go on in the dorms were such a nice break from the stress of school and a great way to meet more people!

Quick Facts

My clubs and organizations: Club swimming, my sorority (Kappa Kappa Gamma), my pre-dental fraternity (Delta Delta Sigma) and my run club (Cola Friday Run Club)
Favorite place for lunch on or near campus: JJ's Tea House
Currently reading for fun: I'm currently reading The Women by Kristin Hannah!
Your most clutch items for dorm life your first year: My most clutch items for dorm life was definitely my bedside caddy, my eyemask (just in case your roommate wants to stay up later!) and tupperware for leftovers.
Skill I’d like to master: I would love to master scuba diving one day! Unfortunately it doesn't look like that will be happening anytime soon, as I can't touch the bottom of a 10 ft. pool without my ears feeling like they're going to explode, but mark my words it'll happen eventually!
Something I’m proud of that’s not on my resume: Something that I'm proud of that's not on my resume is that I'm a 5x swimming and running state champion. I won state 3x in swimming and 2x in track and field!
