Clinical Departments

Clinical work helps students learn how to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses. These departments use their close ties with clinical partners across the state to train medical students through coursework, clerkships, residencies and fellowships.

A Strong Partnership

Our partnership with Prisma Health has helped our university bring in a larger number of faculty who are also practicing physicians. These faculty are perfectly poised to give you the mentorship and hands-on experience you need throughout your medical education. It also means both partners have increased the number and range of their specialties, giving all our students more options as they choose their career path.

Family and Preventative Medicine

We train medical students and residents to take care of all people at all stages of their lives in a team-based environment. We teach how to maintain health, prevent illness, improve healthcare and help patients take the lead in their own care.

Internal Medicine

With eight divisions from cardiology to rheumatology, the Department of Internal Medicine is dedicated to teaching, research and improved care for patients.

Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science

Most students will get their first exposure to this department during their clinical clerkship. The department supports residencies and fellowships for students who want to pursue this field.

All physicians should have the ability to understand the general principles of clinical neurology. You'll get your foundation in this topic during your clinical clerkship.
