Research and Scholarly Activities

Our department has a substantial portfolio of research activities. Through partnerships with the Research Center for Transforming Health, our faculty are involved in projects funded by state and federal agencies.

Our national expertise includes these topics:

  • Rural health
  • Health disparities
  • Health Systems Evaluation and Practice Redesign
  • Ultrasound and Ultrasound Education

Our department engages students and residents in these activities. All family medicine residents complete a scholarly research activity prior to graduation, culminating in a poster or oral presentation. The preventive medicine residents also complete a scholarly project that often results in a peer-review manuscript.

Clinical Trials

As an academic health care group we participate in numerous clinical trials. Clinical trials, also called medical research and research studies, are organized studies conducted with volunteers to answer a particular question about a medical treatment. Clinical trials are also designed to uncover the safety and effectiveness of a new treatment in humans. All clinical research studies must go through a rigorous review process conducted either by Prisma Health or the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
