Chang-uk Lim, Ph.D., joined the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy faculty as a Research Assistant Professor and the Flow Cytometry Core Director in May 2011. Dr. Lim has more than 18 years of experience in cell sorting, cell cycle analysis, apoptosis and immunophenotyping. Specific areas of interest include understanding the mechanisms, which allow cancer cells to develop resistance to chemotherapy at the cellular and molecular levels. His research focuses on functions of several key signaling molecules during development and progression of human diseases, particularly in breast cancer and leukemia.

Lim runs the COBRE Flow Cytometry Core, which provides the following services:

  • Detection of cell-surface and intracellular antigens
  • Cell cycle, cell division and DNA ploidy analysis
  • Apoptosis assays
  • DNA repair assays
  • High-throughput flow cytometric assays
  • Side population and CD marker assays for stem cells
  • Direct cell cloning
  • Aseptic sorting of living cell populations
  • Development and trouble-shooting of new flow cytometric assays
