Cost share or matching is that portion of the project costs that are not paid by the funding agency. Cost share can be provided by the university or third party.
As a rule, ASPH does not allow cost share on a proposal unless it is requested/required by the sponsor.
If required by sponsor cost share must be added in the budget, budget justification, and USCeRA. If cost share is provided by a third party a letter stating the amount of the funds provided is required.
ASPH follows the university’s policy on cost share: Voluntary Cost Share Guidance and Procedures

Purpose
The Office of Corporate & Foundation Philanthropy (CFP) works internally with directors of development within each academic unit, administrators, faculty, and staff, and externally with corporate and foundation representatives, to support the University of South Carolina's academic, institutional, and research initiatives, priorities, and programs. Support from corporations and foundations is an essential source of funding for USC scholarships, faculty research, and programs. CFP serves as a central point of entry for corporations and foundations that are interested in investments, partnerships, and/or collaboration with USC. CFP identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards these relationships.
Philanthropic Relationships and Strategic Partnerships
CFP establishes and develops strong relationships with companies and foundations to support USC’s mission. These relationships are philanthropic with a larger goal of creating strategic partnerships between USC and its corporate and foundation supporters focused on a common vision. Meetings, conference calls, off-campus corporate and foundation visits, forums, and site visits are just some of the ways that USC and our external supporters maximize benefit to the University, partnering organizations, and the community at large.
